FL's June Playlist
Mon 6th Jun, 2011 in Features
Another month, another Playlist and this June we are raving about Brisbane surf-pop two piece Dune Rats, Perth’s The Growl, Melbourne shoe gazers Demon Parade and singer-songwriter Phia.
DUNE RATS
Brisbane’s Dune Rats are a messy two piece that make a lot of noise and like to party. Their tunes sit in the surfy-garage world currently occupied by bands like Bleeding Knees Club and DZ Deathrays but with a whopping dose of unashamed pop to boot.
They make music to dance, drink and pash to. Tracks like Colour Television and the appropriately titled Wooo are so much fun and so damn catchy that you will find them swimming around inside your head long after the first listen.
The band is made of Danny Moffitt (formerly the lead singer of Villains of Wilhelm) and BC Michaels who is best known as the skinsman of The Cairo’s and they released their debut EP Sexy Beach in February, only months after forming. Although it is early stages for Dune Rats they are sure to be swinging their party tunes at festivals this summer.
You can buy ( or just listen to ) Dune Rats’ debut EP on their bandcamp page here and catch them playing with Belles Will Ring at The Step Inn on July 8th in Brisbane.
