Darwin Deez playlist

Indie rocker Darwin Deez mesmerizes listeners with his playful melodies and will be coming to Australia later this month to please his fans Down Under with sets at Groovin the Moo and at a run of headline sideshows.
When FL caught up with him in August last year he told us that his album self titled album is “music for people in suburbs, for non-hipsters…The perfect audience for the record is what you might call the average Joe, rather than the urban, discerning, hipster elite.”
FL wanted to know what albums have soundtracked Deez life and discovered that his music collection includes everything from the “hipster elite” sounds of Animal Collective to a love of John Mayer and The Rocket Summer.
FIRST ALBUM YOU BOUGHT
I think it was The Breeders, Last Splash, and it was incorrigible it took me years and years to figure it out. It truly was a cool album.
FIRST ALBUM GIVEN TO YOU
I think it was Greenday’s Dookie, that was even better than Last Splash.
GUILTY PLEASURE ALBUM
Guilty pleasure umm, I’d say Continuum by John Mayer for sure I’ve been listening to it a lot lately. Especially the live performances of those songs are really great.
ROAD TRIP ALBUM
Lately it’s Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. I really like Breathe and I like Time.
FIRST BREAK UP ALBUM
This is a really hard one. But ill tell you my current ‘break up’ album that I’m really into a Frightened Rabbits album, The Midnight Organ Fight. It is incredible, the lyrics especially.
MOST OBSCURE ALBUM IN THE COLLECTION
The most obscure album maybe is 90 Day Men’s debut album, I’m gonna say that one because it’s really great but people don’t know about it. It’s called (It (Is) It) Critical Band, which is a pretty awesome title. I downloaded it illegally years ago.
ALBUM YOU WISH YOU MADE
I felt that way about the first Animal Collective album called Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished for years. I definitely wish I did that.
LAST ALBUM YOU BOUGHT
I think it was Do You Feel by The Rocket Summer which is an emo band. That falls under the guilty pleasure category too.
ALBUM THAT INSPIRES YOU THE MOST
I think probably Is This It by The Strokes is a huge inspiration because it’s so consistent. I obviously was really trying to make my record sound consistent as well, and that was really impressive, the way they turned everyone on to rock music and everything was pretty cool.
