Architects

The Architects must love Australia; they tour here at least twice a year and they gush about our country in interviews. “It’s like our favourite place to tour. We don’t really want to tour anywhere else. The weather is a bit better than our weather,”says lead singer Sam Carter with a sarcastic laugh, “and just the people and the whole vibe. I can’t really describe why I like it so much but it’s just awesome.”

The five piece, hailing from Brighton in the United Kingdom, have completed their fourth studio album called The Here and Now , which is set for release early next year. The record is the follow up to 2009’s Hollow Crown, an album that helped the band gain recognition outside of their own country.

“It’s like Hollow Crown, just a little more melodic in places but at the same time it’s still heavy,” Carter says, trying to describe the new LP. “Every album we do is a progression. Hopefully people will enjoy it, but if they don’t I don’t really give a fuck because I enjoy it and we enjoy it.”

Since their formation in 2004 the band have toured with a slew of well known bands such as Parkway Drive, Protest The Hero, A Day to Remember and Bring Me The Horizon. Despite their success, Carter is quick to mention that the band is very grateful for every opportunity that has come their way and they are well aware that nothing lasts forever. “If this album does well, then maybe there will be another one,” he says in a nonchalant tone. “But if it doesn’t…. I’ll be a bin man.”

This December will see the Architects grace our shores once more, but Carter is already thinking of touring here again in 2011. “I would love to do Soundwave again. Maybe not next year but the year after. Soundwave this year was absolutely ridiculous. It was like band camp.”

So if him and the rest of the band love Australia so much, why not just move here? “Everyday I think about it. If I could live in Melbourne or Byron Bay I’d be there in a second.”

Architects are on tour now with Comeback Kid, Rolo Tomassi and This Is Hell.
