New single from HancockBasement

Illustrious local musicians Hancock Basement are back, better than ever and have a fresh single raring to go and one excellent clip with it.

One in a Million Does continues down the indie pop road the foursome have traversed well over the past couple of years. There’s a slightly darker twang to the bass from Todd Gregory and heavier pounds of the drums from Tom Spira (if that’s even possible!) but it stays true to their sound now well know thanks to last year’s hits Hey Kids and Don Juan. Guitarists Nick Beresford-Wylie and Nick Craven deliver deliciously catchy hooks as per usual, and the vocals are a spot-on mix of social observation and wit.

When it comes to the video for the new single, the quartet teamed up with the Melbournite doing some very cool things at the moment, Jordan Prosser and have successfully created an off-kilter interpretation of how to wow the industry boss.

So what exactly happens when you become a warehouse captive of the almighty music suit and at his command you’re forced to perform, all while he analyses your every move and quiver of your vocal chords? Well, this is the basic premise of the clip, and though not the most original idea, it certainly is engaging. The three and a half minute clip sees Hancock Basement and their finely co-ordinated outfits cop a serious beating from tinned spaghetti, eggs and other edible paraphernalia from the evil men in biochem suits and battle their way through the song to reach the other end and the bikini-clad women. The clip suits the song perfectly; the drumming timed with absolute visual precision and enough close ups of the dashing quartet to make you scream like it’s Beatlemania all over again.

With the new single comes a slew of upcoming tour dates and if we’re really lucky, the near future might just bring us a piece of the gang to take home with us and put on the stereo. One can only hope and hassle at gigs!
