My Fiction
Mon 12th Jul, 2010 in Features
My Fiction are one of the hottest bands to come out of Brisbane in the last twelve months. They have recently finished recording their debut album, which is slated for a July 16 release, and they are receiving widespread airplay for the first single from the album Every June. Their catchy melodies are hard to resist and they are receiving praise from everywhere across the country for their tunes.
The boys invited FasterLouder along to the filming of the clip, to get the inside gossip on the band, the latest single, the album and everything that 2010 holds for them.
While it seems that along with their talent, curly locks are a pre-requisite for this band, My Fiction assure me that this is not the case, and it just kind of happened that way.
Lead singer Eric Robinson laughs that it is certainly a way to get noticed. They are easily recognised and along with their music, this makes them stand out from the crowd.
No more so than today, where they are underway with the second day of filming the clip for Every June. The clip was filmed in an old warehouse in the back of Fortitude Valley and the boys are all style and completely professional as they are directed about the set by Killian Maguire. Killian has worked with Kisschasy and Claire Bowditch and had some great ideas as to how to progress with this clip.
The song is about lead singer Eric Robinson’s mother, who passed away from cancer and the idea for the film clip came about from the hardships and struggles that Eric himself went through. The boxer who stars in the clip, Sam ‘The Boss’ Leone, had a special connection with Eric’s mum and the boys felt it was only right that he be involved. Sam had a tough upbringing and turned himself around to became the QLD Welterweight champion, so the clip is significant in portraying the sometimes lonely path that can lead to success.
For those who have yet to see the clip, it shows Sam as he runs through various boxing drills and mentally prepares himself for the fight ahead. This fits in with the theme of the song, about continuing on with your held high and how things will work out in the end. The whole theme of My Fiction is in fact along these lines. They sing about heartbreak, missing the last train and all the while coming out the other side smiling. They are upbeat and catchy and mix this with moody, dark melodies, which certainly makes them a band that stands out from the rest of the pack.
As 2010 continues to be a stellar year for My Fiction, they have begun to prepare themselves for their album launch at The Zoo on Friday 16th July. Playing alongside fellow Brisbane locals The Belligerents and Numbers Radio the night promises fantastic music and the opportunity to support three of Brisbane’s finest young bands.
