Closure In Moscow

Closure in Moscow has come a long way from the local Melbourne band that came together in 2006. Since then, the band members have sold their cars to get the money to fly out American music producer Kris Crummett to produce their EP, The Penance and the Patience and toured internationally in America and Japan.

From the ups and the downs, from scoring a 44 show stint with the iconic Warped Tour, to a peculiar incident with Soundwave this year, Closure in Moscow’s with Chris de Cinque (lead vocals) and Manny Zennelli (guitar, vocals) had a lot to talk about.

The boys are humbled by their rise to fame and have been working non-stop, especially since the release of their debut LP, First Temple, which received positive feedback both in Australia and internationally. “I guess you always hope for something like that, but never really expect it – you just keep your head down and keep plugging away”

Since the release of First Temple in 2009 the band has toured in America, as well as performing four shows in Japan with FACT earlier this year. “Japan I hate to say it, is a far superior country to America or Australia. They’ve got their shit down. We were treated so well over there…it was just unbelievable getting that kind of treatment. The shows were fucking amazing, the crowds were unbelievable, people were so friendly.”

However, the band is excited to be back home for the ‘Singularity’ tour which will be visiting all the Australian capital cities, before they embark on an epic tour of the US, performing a whooping 44 shows as a part of the Warped tour. On playing Warped, Manny adds, “We are pretty anxious, its one of those iconic festivals in the music industry, so its pretty awesome.”

The boys promise a memorable experience with the ‘Singularity’ tour, Chris added, “we’re doing some cool stuff with the songs, chucking in some fresh new parts into the mix. Also, everyone should read “The Singularity is Near_ by Ray Kurzweil, it all about the preparation for this tour – it’s a really good book.”

During our mid-morning discussion, the band reveals that work has already begun on the follow up to First Temple, with a promise that the new album will be completely unique and different to band’s earlier work. “The next albums going to be about 10 minutes long but its going to be fucking unbelievable 10 minutes. We like to challenge ourselves, we want to keep exploring our musical horizons”.

The band will also be incorporating influences such as Disney scores and classical pieces Closure in Moscow is definitely bringing something different to the table. “Yeah its pretty risky, but I guess that’s what its taken, if you play it safe, you don’t really rock the boat much and I think that’s what you need.”

Closure in Moscow has always stayed true to their vision and as a result keep producing unique and powerful tracks. “We have a vision and we put our balls on the table so to speak -like we don’t really think about the consequences -from selling cars, to flying out producers from America, and going to America to live for a year.”

The future is definitely bright for these boys, with ambitions to keep bringing out awesome songs that reflect their influences and personal styles, to one day playing on the moon, Closure in Moscow is definitely a band to check out when they hit your local venue.
