Hot Little Hands
Fri 4th Dec, 2009 in Features
This Sunday 6th December New York will be coming to Melbourne when The Boroughs takes over the Docklands. The Boroughs’ brings together visual artists, bootlegger bars, skaters and thrift stores with bands and DJ’s such as Bertie Blackman, Miami Horror, Yves Klein Blue, Hot Little Hands, Bachelor of Arts, Frowning Clouds, Wilfred Jackal and The Hello Morning
In the lead-up to the event we sit down with Hot Little Hands to discover what kind of New York attitude the lads will be bringing with them this weekend.
Which New York musicians would you most like to play a show with?
SonicYouth, Laurie Anderson, Jay-Z and Wu Tang.
How are you planning to bring NYC to Melbourne?
We’re going to dress like Lady Liberty and encourage everyone else to do likewise.
What’s the last great album you’ve had in your hot little hands?
Dream it Down by Underground Lovers and Atlas Sound’s new one is pretty good. Melbourne – œlocal kid’ J Hawk has some great songs on his new EP as well.
When you get back from the boroughs, you’ll play a handful of dates alongside the Last Dinosaurs. Anything in particular you’re looking to try out at those shows?
Yes, we’re at the Order of Melbourne on the 12th of December with the Last Dinosaurs and the Motifs. We have a rash of new songs we’ve been itching to play, some of them are psychotropic freak outs, and some are more like tropical punk. We’re pulling out the fruity stuff for the summer.
Is playing live always exciting for the band, or does tinkering in the studio beckon more?
One’s like being a monk, the other is like being a monkey. Sort of similar, but in the end quite different. Both have their upsides though – we like it both ways.
What’s the next chapter in the Hot Little Hands tale?
HLH are going to take some time off, knuckle down and finish writing our next record over the next few months. We’re going to Japan in the New Year to promote our new Japanese language singles, then home to record.
You can get your New Yorker on with Hot Little Hands at The Boroughs Sunday 6th December – Shed 4, Docklands.
