COOPERS ALIVE 2009: MonkeyPuzzle Tree

Monkey Puzzle Tree play the Promethean as part of the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Sophie Calderbank and Matthew Gorgula from the band talks to FasterLouder.

What’s the latest goings on for the band? “The recording we’ve been talking about for a while now will definitely be out by the end of the year… November or December! We’re extremely excited because it’s our first album so keep your ears peeled! We’ve also been busy writing and working on a collection of new material, some of which will be on show for the Coopers Alive showcase at the Prom!”

What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? “A chance to play with all these great local bands and any chance of playing your music to new audiences is a great thing. We’re excited to be playing at the Promethean, on a night dedicated to music of our genre. We really enjoyed working with Golonka and The Baker Suite – because of the kind of music we play, we’re almost outcasts, so it’s nice to have some local band friends. It’s also been a huge help to have the support from Gordon, Aus Music SA and Coopers.”

Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “Not really, but we’re thinking of going out for dinner before hand… ...for this one there’s a few extra promo things we’re doing – the marketing and networking events that have been put on as part of Coopers Alive are a lot of fun too.”

Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “It’s good! It gets us motivated and makes the gig an extra special event. We usually feel a bit of pressure to play our best so this upcoming gig is no different in that respect.”

What can punters expect from your set on the night? “Some tracks from our forthcoming album as well as some very juicy new stuff.”

Any suprises? “There’s talk of a big group collaboration/jam between the 3 bands, or at least some of the band members…plus more!! You’ll have to see for yourself and you won’t be disappointed!”

What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “We’re going to get the album out and have a big party when we do, because we’ve been working on it for about a year! You’re all invited!”
