COOPERS ALIVE 2009: The BakerSuite
Wed 21st Oct, 2009 in Features
The Baker Suite play the Promethean as part of the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Gayle Buckby from the band talks to FasterLouder.
What’s the latest goings for the band? “We’ve finished recording our new CD and waiting to “officially” launch it (we’re only selling it off-stage in Adelaide until then). The CD was produced by Paul Grabowsky (he plays on it too), and we’re very excited about getting it out soon.”
What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? “This has been a great opportunity to get to meet other Adelaide bands, and work in a collaborative and creative way together. The workshops have been really informative and inspiring – and the generous sponsorship has helped us promote the event in a professional way.”
Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “I think this will be a VERY special event. The line-up is a superb match – it will be a real pleasure to play on the same bill as Monkey Puzzle Tree and Golonka. There’ll be a unique atmosphere from the chemistry of these atmospheric bands working together for the first time. We’re going to have a beautiful night in the luscious confines of The Promethean. There’s been a few months lead-up and we’re all very excited.”
Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “Yes – but sometimes pressure is a good thing.”
What can punters expect from your set on the night? “Songs from our latest CD, some brand new songs and a little bit of magic.”
Any surprises? “There will be some surprises during the after party which everyone’s invited to. But you’ll have to come to find out.”
What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “We’ll be playing shows in Adelaide while planning a national tour for early 2010 to coincide with our CD release.”
