The The Touch play Jive as part of the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Vocalist Josh Moore talks to FasterLouder.
What’s the latest goings for the band? “Probably the biggest thing happening for us right now is the production of our new Ep, which is due out towards the end of the year/into early next year. We recorded it in June this year, and our producer Darren Cross (E.L.F., Gerling) is tweaking it at the moment. We’re pretty happy with what he’s come up with so far and can’t wait for the end result. Also coming up this month for us is the One Movement festival in Perth which we’re stoked on, that’s on from Oct 16-19 with some epic acts on the bill.”
What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? “It’s great that a company like Coopers is willing to give support to up and coming SA bands, and we’re really happy to be a part of it. It’s a massive help to have some financial backing for promotion and the live show as well, so we’re pretty chuffed and ready to tear the roof off of Jive on the 24th!”
Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “I guess most people would say ‘nah it’s just another show’, but I see it as a great opportunity to pack out a venue, and play to a bunch of people that may not have seen us play before, so yeah I guess we’ll approach it a little differently. We’re always really energetic on stage and froth on bigger crowds, so if we’ve got a full room we’ll be ready to entertain.”
Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “I think at every show there’s potentially going to be someone there that’s ‘sussing’ you out for one thing or another, and to be honest when we’re on stage, well speaking on my behalf anyway, I don’t really think too much about who is in the room, I’m just concentrating on making sure I’m doing my job and entertaining the punters. We’ve played enough ‘showcase’ shows to industry types in the last 12 months to know that you can’t treat them any differently, you just have to make sure you perform your best.”
What can punters expect from your set on the night? “The Chicken Dance, climbing the tall stacks, ridiculous dance moves, and some banging bass lines. Basically people will see a band having a shit load of fun on stage, completely comfortable in their surrounds and wanting to get the punters involved.”
Any surprises? “You’ll see.”
What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “Finish the Ep! Play at One Movement, then hopefully get back up to Brisbane for a few shows and also Sydney to keep in touch with that area. We’ll also continue to plan our annual Touch Party which will be happening in January 2010 to coincide with the Ep’s release, if you were at last years party, then you’ll know you don’t want to miss this one!”
