COOPERS ALIVE 2009: Kytes ofOmar

Kytes of Omar play Jive as part of the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Singer and guitarist Anthony talks to FasterLouder.

What’s the latest goings for the band? “Well we were selected to play extras in the up and coming movie Coffin Rock which will be released on the 22nd of Oct at Australian cinemas and hopefully internationally. The move was done by the same producers of Wolf Creek so it should be very helpful for us. Also at the moment we are thinking about doing some single releases, so hands are on deck at the moment, I think next year will hopefully be a big year for us.”

What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? “It means a lot to us, its amazing to be selected along side 24 other great Adelaide bands , so its a great feeling to be part of this.”

Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “To be honest we try to treat every single show like its our last, I think that’s great with kytes, no show is normal for us and we plan to keep it that way. You don’t know what might happen at shows.”

Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “I’m sure its in the back of our minds but we won’t change for that, the main thing is to concentrate on the music. It also depends on the crowd, because the crowd is what makes us, the more the crowd are into it then the more we throw the performance at you.”

What can punters expect from your set on the night? “Good question, I suppose a great performance! We like to try and make our shows epic! so you will see a’lot of movement and jumping around, heaps of energy goes into our shows. We believe if we are not out of breath after a show, then we have not played hard enough.”

Any surprises? “We have a few new songs we will play which is always a surprise to the Kytes supporters. Our aim is to hit people in the face using our music, we love it when it just booms into the crowd, that’s what makes a perfect live show. I think the biggest surprises would be to the people who have heard of us before and then see us, that seems to surprise a lot of people.”

What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “We like to go with the flow, we might have a few shows up our sleaves but at the moment we want to concentrate on coopers alive and get that show out the way, take them as they come I suppose.”
