COOPERS ALIVE 2009: AviatorLane

Aviator Lane will play the Jade Monkey as part of the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Singer Michael Radzevicius chats to FasterLouder.

What’s the latest goings for the band? Well, at the moment we’re mainly getting ready for our show on Friday, which we’re really looking forward to playing. Maybe that’s not too surprising. Hmm. But, besides that, we’re writing and arranging stuff for our next album which is hopefully going to be ready to take over the charts by about the middle of next year. I believe people say things like ‘shit’s going to drop’ and ‘it will be massive’ at times like these.

What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? Hopefully it will mean quite a large party! And that it will assist us in our afore-mentioned plan to take over the charts next year. These days, if you’re not about shifting units, you’re pretty much irrelevant.

Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? We haven’t really, no. Unfortunately we’re not a hugely theatrical band so we’ll mainly be focusing on playing in time, in key and maybe even on the same stage. The Coopers folks have done an awesome job with the promo for these gigs so we’re hoping to be able to reward their efforts as best we can.

Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? Not sure really. I don’t think so. We’ll just do our best to put on a good gig and try and convince whoever comes that despite the sadsack songs we write, we’re actually quite amenable fellows. And that we do quite enjoy drinking Coopers (not sure how this interview is set for product placement litigation but hey, it’s true. We like beer).

What can punters expect from your set on the night? There are going to be live visuals for all the bands so that will be a nice addition for those of us who might have a slight predilection for staring at our shoes a bit too much. We’ll be dressed good and sharp too.

Any surprises? Some say there might be a smoke machine. We’re boning up on our Whitesnake covers too so if that ain’t an incentive to come, we really don’t have one. But they ain’t gonna be surprises if we spill the beans here, right??

What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? Just writing, arranging songs, hopefully getting into the studio. We might have quite a big gig on New Year’s Eve that will be a rather large amount of fun. So stay tuned for news on that one, people of the internet!
