Cortez are set for a big summer and are very much so looking forward to showcasing their wares at the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase at Fowler’s Live. Bass player James Hastings talks to FasterLouder.
What’s the latest goings for the band? “We’re busy writing songs for a record to be recorded early next year hopefully. Also we have been playing live as much as possible.”
What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? “It’s a great opportunity to player a larger venue with some really solid bands and put on a larger scale local show.”
Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig?” We just put a lot more thought into promoting it. It was much more of a collaborative effort between the bands than what we would usually do for a show.”
Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “No more than just wanting to impress anyone that was watching us play.”
What can punters expect from your set on the night? “It can get pretty loud and sweaty. Saying that though; nobody should expect any guitar swings or mic tricks from Cortez.”
Any surprises? “With all of the bands playing nobody would want any extra features. We’d much prefer to play a really honest show and put in as much as we can.”
What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “We’ll be doing some pre-production for our album soon and we’re looking at locking in someone to work on the recording with us rather than record it ourselves like our previous stuff. Our current interest is David Trump so well probably pursue him for it. Aside from that just playing as much as possible, improving our live show and letting anyone hear us who’s interseted to.”
