COOPERS ALIVE 2009: BrentonManser & The Disciples Of Zen

Brenton Manser & The Disciples Of Zen is playing The Wheatsheaf Hotel as a part of Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Nick Burt from the band dishes the scoop on the latest musings.

What’s the latest goings for the band? “The latest news on our front is that Nic Dalton from Half A Cow Records was happy with what he heard when we sent him an unmastered version of our album and has decided to sign us to his label based in Sydney. After around 18 months in and out of Dave Lokan’s Big Sound studio we finally got it finished and to have Nic enjoy the tracks as much as we did brings a nice feeling that’s for sure.”

What does it mean for your band to be playing the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase? “Coopers Alive showcase…well…personally I’m stoked to be placed on a line up with bands of the calibre of Gracewood and Laura Hill and The Tuesday Bandits, I can confidently invite friends and know that they are going to be treated to a high standard rockin’ event. The Wheatsheaf hotel is a great venue to play at and the brand that supports the day is a great S.A. company. I’m really looking forward to it as is the rest of the band!”

Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “I personally don’t approach it much differently to a normal gig as we try to play as well as we can, always. But I think I will bug more people to turn up to the event because I know the line up is strong and it will be a fun day.”

Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “As for industry types being there? I don’t feel more pressure. We will just do what we like doing (playing music) and hope they like it as much as the other punters.”

What can punters expect from your set on the night? “The Punters can expect diversity on the night the whole 3 bands will take them on a journey of light to shade and for $10 entry I’m positive they will leave satisfied.”

What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “As for the rest of the year it looks busy with residency at the Grace Emily Hotel for November and our CD launch at the end of that month. There are also murmurings about a short regional tour…but we’ll have to wait and see.”
