Continuing the success of the Up Late program of art, live music and talks at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), the Queensland Art Gallery is running an Up Late series to coincide with their world exclusive exhibition American Impressionism and Realism: A Landmark Exhibition from the Met, from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
The Met Up Late is a separate ticketed event running each Friday night from July 31 to September 18. For just $20, guests enjoy exhibition entry, local DJ Archie Jacobson spinning classic jazz vinyl, a series of talks by local identities on their American-Australian experience and intimate performances by well known solo, duo or trio musicians, celebrating the contemporary influences of New York’s jazz age.
The live music performances will be situated in the Gallery’s Watermall on a purpose-built island in the middle of the water space that has hosted everything from hundreds of floating silver balls to a fully functional Thai bamboo bridge that rained on those who used it during the Asia Pacific Triennial exhibitions.
The Gallery’s bar and café will be open and for those who are Gallery Members, you can relax with a complimentary glass of wine while enjoying insights into the American Arts in the newly refurbished Members Area during the Gallery Members Program. Gallery Members receive priority ticket sales through QTIX with a weekly allocation of The Met Up Late tickets reserved just for them. Join as a Gallery Member today and receive a free ticket to your choice of The Met Up Late nights, subject to availability. For more information, or to become a Gallery Member, visit www.qag.qld.gov.au/gallerymembers
Each Up Late event opens at 5.30pm with the live performances starting at 8.30pm and the gallery closing at 9.30pm.
