On The Borderline Of Success

Local Brisbane boys, and girl, The Bloodpoets, launched their first single_Borderline_ off their debut album, Polarity, at The Zoo tonight.
Todd Orchard, the bands drummer since 2005, tells me that it has been a hard slog but now it seems that everything is starting to fall into place. Even though the current lineup that graces the stage is less than a year old, they work well together, and the music they are writing and producing is becoming more mature and polished.

Although they are an independent band, they are extremely focused on what they are looking to achieve as musicians. Local indie station, 4ZZZ are strong supporters and they give the band a lot of airplay and for two months running, their debut EP Fire In Erlangen was listed in their Top 20 albums. Triple J has also run their debut single Borderline through Unearthed and it has been well received. The boys are enjoying the positive response everyone has to the track, and previously with Fire In Erlangen, and this is proven with their track record of support slots.

Orchard points out that the more support slots they play, the more their music gets out there. “Over the years, we have always had great, loyal and supportive people around us and at this stage it’s about building on that. We have had some good opportunities to play to new crowds which has been awesome. Getting some supports has been a great opportunity for us to get our name out there. For some people you are the 30 or 40 minutes getting in the way of what they came to see but at the same time, we have found a lot of people to be very open and receptive towards support acts, and to us, which has been great.” And with young fans waiting for the likes of British India, Butterfingers and Youth Group, The Bloodpoets can only hope that they are well and truly impressing this crowd with their catchy indie and pop tunes.

But being an independent band can have its pros and cons, and although the band enjoy having complete control over everything they do, they are starting to find that managing the band can at times be challenging. Orchard tells me that sometimes it can be difficult to stay focused while trying to manage your life outside of the band with study, work, friendships, and relationships and everything else. – œDoing this can at times be a struggle with little reward but there’s always something to keep pushing you along. All we can hope for at the moment is for the remainder of the year to continue how it has started,’

With a brand new film clip for Borderline about to hit the airwaves, and a second single to be released in the coming months, just before their debut album Polarity hits the streets, things don’t appear to be slowing down any time soon for this extremely talented Brisbane outfit.
