Delamare
Thu 19th Mar, 2009 in Features
After catching all the action track side at the Clipsal 500 what better way than seeing a few bands before heading home for the night. Delamare are flying the Adelaide flag high on night two when they share the stage with The Presets, Faker, Pete Murray and Operator Please. Matt from the band takes time out from rehearsals for a quick Q&A.
2008 was busy for Delamare, how’s 2009 shaping up? “So far so good,” Matt said. “It has been busy, but busy in a different way. We have had our heads down, writing songs and finding out who we really are as songwriters and musicians. It’s been great.”
It must be a huge buzz playing the Clipsal 500? “Yeah, it definitely is something you always dream of doing, and once we get a taste, it is only going to make us want more.”
How do you think you’ll go down with 20,000 petrol heads after the race? “As long as I slip in a few “go holden”, “go ford”…along with some swearing, we’ll be fine. Nah I think it we will go down well as long as we play our best and make it enjoyable for everyone.”
Hanging out with The Presets, Pete Murray, Faker and Operator Please must be a nice bonus? “Of course,” Matt thought. “It is always nice to meet people you have listened to and looked up to. Hopefully they enjoy hanging out with us, its always great to make new friends in the industry.”
Is a lot of thought going in to the set list and showcasing the band? “Definitely. We want to make sure there is energy, along with enjoyable music and something people will remember.”
How’s writing going for the new album? “Good thanks. It’s one of those things you can never fully judge until you have had outside objective input, but so far we are very happy with our direction. Something a little bit new and different that hopefully people will grasp on to.”
Will fans get a sneak peak at the Clipsal 500? “They will get a sneak peak at the new direction, but who knows which songs may or may not make the album.”
Is the new gear a departure from what we already know? “It still uses the same idea of catchy melodies and clever structure, however we have tried to branch out and bring something new to the table in order to become recognised as a fresh, great band.
Are there plans to release it this year? “It is doubtful as there is heaps of work still to be done. But we will still be showcasing our ideas to the public to get feedback and re-introduce everyone to Delamre.”
Apart from the next album, what’s is the plan for the next six months? “We have a few interstate shows booked, so we will do them, along with just exploring ourselves as a band, really going out of our comfort zone to bring something special in our final product.”
Delamre will be playing at the Friday night Clipsal 500 concert on March 19 along with The Presets, Faker, Pete Murray and Operator Please.
