Fearless Vampire Killers

Having kicked off the year in true style supporting The Hives on their national tour, FasterLouder sits down with the lads from Fearless Vampire Killers to get the goss on Pele’s ego and what it feels like to be a ‘buzz band’.

You kicked of the year in great style with a support slot on The
Hives tour. What was it like playing with “the greatest band in the
world” – is Pele’s ego really that big?

I kicked myself for weeks back in high school for not going to see
them at the 2005 Big Day Out, and now I’m drinking beers with them
backstage. So you can imagine, it was pretty exciting. As for ‘Howlin’
Pele, he is a showman. His ego is as big as it needs to be.

Was it intimidating playing such big rooms/crowds?

Not really, We find it more intimidating playing to a small crowd in
a small room.

You have received a lot of positive press in the last few months
(which has included being named on of Wireless Bollinger’s ‘10 bands
to watch) – how much does this type of thing effect you as a band?

As a band It really helps your confidence and makes things a lot
easier. The last few months have been great.

What Melbourne bands would you include on a “Fearless Vampire Killers bands to watch” list?

Our good mates The Priory Dolls are releasing an E.P soon, which
we’re all hang out for. And other bands such as The Harpoons and The
Frowning Clouds are doing good things.

You have had a bit of a line-up change recently has this effected
the dynamic of the band greatly?

Yes, we now have Richard Bradbeer playing bass for us. He’s a great bass player, and could probably play anything you told him to whilst holding a beer.

Are there any plans to follow up your debut EP with an album?

We’ve been talking about doing an album. And everybody’s keen about
the idea. We’ve Just had a few set backs with the recent line up
change and having little money . But were hoping we can get something going in the later months of this year.

You are set to play My Filthy Riot a festival which showcases some of
Sydney’s finest bands – is there any one that you are particularly
excited about playing with or seeing?

I was looking at the line up the other day, and I was quite excited
to see other Melbourne acts on the bill. But mainly I’m just excited
about the festival. Should be a lot of fun.
