BDO LOCALS - The Shiny Brights

2008 was a big year for local lads The Shiny Brights and 2009 looks set to be even bigger. If you’re venturing down to the Big Day Out early check out The Shiny Brights who are on first up. Alex who plays guitar shares his thoughts on the Big Day Out.

What’s the feeling amongst the band in the lead up to the Big Day Out? “Everyone is really, really excited, it’s a bit of a “things to do before you die” event for us so we’re over the moon!”

With so many other bands doing their thing, how do you plan to win over punters on the day? “I’m going to be honest here,” Alex stated. “We have a guy who sings in red pants which make him look like the biggest Lego man anyone has ever seen – so that’s all we’re running on. Seriously though, we’re on first up during the day and if people want to start their day off with some fun, guitar driven, indie pop then definitely come along!”

What’s the best part of being a band playing the SA leg of the Big Day Out? “I love the fact that not only we not only get to be a part of such a prestigious and long running festival but we also get to be a part of it with some other great Adelaide acts.”

What bands are on your ‘must see’ list? “Must see acts? Definitely Neil Young, The Arctic Monkeys, The Prodigy, TV on the Radio, Black Kids, Birds of Tokyo (they were amazing at Southbound). Would it be bad of me to name The Shiny Brights?”

How do you plan to unwind/celebrate after your set? “The post gig celebration will probably involve packing all of my gear into my gold ‘88 Volvo wagon (it gets the babes, man) and then enjoy what will hopefully be left of some free beer and go and see some of my favourite bands. Maybe a hug from Miles (drummer) too.”

Do you have a good story or memory from a previous BDO experience? “Definitely going to see Kings of Leon play on one of the side stages to about 250 people when no one really knew about them and they weren’t scared of growing the occasional beard.”

The Shiny Brights play the V Energy Hot Produce stage from 11.00am to 11.40am.
