Award winning songwriter Tim Steward brings his new band to Adelaide this September. Gifted songwriter and renowned front man for iconic indie rock band Screamfeeder, Tim Steward has assembled a new band to perform his solo material live. The five-some swap an array of electric and acoustic instruments on stage, bringing to life well crafted songs that are heavily laced with tight male/female harmonies and captivating musical chemistry.
What’s the latest news for the Tim Steward Band? “We have recorded our debut 4 song EP which will be released soon, and we have booked the sessions for our second EP already!”
What’s different about this tour compared to previous tours? “First time for the new band in S.A,” Tim pointed out. “It’s Todd’s hometown, plus we have a ton of mates there so I reckon it’ll be a good one.”
Who’s in the Tim Steward Band? “Tim Steward, Todd Hutchinson, Skye Staniford, Paul Daly, Dan McNaulty,” Tim introduced. “We all play most of these instruments: drums, bass, guitars, accordion, melodica, mouth organ, tambourine, shaker, keyboards and singing.”
How did this collective form? I didn’t rush it,” Tim suggested “I more or less sat back and waited for people to come to me. It took a bit over a year for the perfect line up to form; but yeah, it kinda formed by itself. Like it was meant to be, or something spooky like that.”
What can punters expect on the night? “We’ll have fun,” Tim said. “We swap instruments a lot. We smile at each other. We try to be sort of “professional” which ends up being funny. We are well rehearsed so the songs shouldn’t be a total dog’s dinner. Lots of melody, lots of harmonies.”
Three Adelaide shows sounds impressive, will they be much different if someone went to all three? “Good question. It’ll essentially be around 80% of the same songs each night but we find different songs work differently each night. A song which is kinda smooth one night will come out all ballsy the next.”
Will you be taking any Screamfeeder requests? “Not on stage,” Tim stated. “Only after the gig, up at the bar, if you’re lucky. (bloody mary please).”
What’s the next challenge for the Tim Steward band? “I am writing a lot at the moment so the band constantly has to learn a lot of new songs. I think they’re all about to quit. My challenge is to bring enough crisps and wine to each practice so they can’t leave.”
