There’s quite a bit of excitement in the Shadows camp at the moment as they use the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase as a springboard to promote their documentary Word Of Mouth made by Shalom Almond Linde. Colin Darcy speaks in further detail about the documentary and everything else with Shadows.

What’s the latest goings on for Shadows? “Since releasing our debut album Reflections that we recorded in the UK last year our music’s making a strong impact on Adelaide’s music scene including airplay on NOVA 919 for the past 12 months. We’ve also had on going success just recently being chosen as the Fringe Benefit ‘Artist Of The Week’ on Adelaide’s popular commercial radio station Fresh FM as of the 7 July 2008 that includes a live interview on Friday 11 July at 10.30am.”

Colin also added, “we’re originally from Whyalla so the big commercial radio station called Magic FM that covers the whole Spencer Gulf & country NSW taste tested our first single Reflections and was voted into the TR Top 20 voted songs of the day and since gained high rotation airplay so we have a lot of commercial radio support at the moment and it seems to be doing wonders for Shadows.”

What’s this about a documentary being made about shadows? “Since day one as Shadows, Adelaide’s Multi Award Winning Film Maker “Shalom Almond Linde” has been beside us filming their every move for a Documentary called Word Of Mouth,” Colin spruiked. Word Of Mouth follows Shadows on there journey through the up’s and downs of trying to break into the mainstream music industry as well as providing an insight into their personal lives. The doco is an emotional and inspirational film that’s in it’s final stages of editing which will shortly be promoted to a number of TV producers with the desire to be aired on National TV in there near future.”

What does it mean for your band to be playing the SA Live Music Showcase? “It means a lot to us to be apart of this showcase cause honestly we don’t get many opportunities from promoters to show what were made of, so it’s a great chance for us to prove our self’s and hopefully gain more fans in the local hip hop community.”

Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “We approach every show the same,” Colin said. “Our stage is like our home and we’re always ready to give it our all weather it is in front of 10 people or 300 people.”

Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “We haven’t been in that situation before so were not really fussed about it so there’s no extra pressure on us, we love being on stage and enjoy every moment of it so no matter who is watching we’ll still stay composed and give it our all!”

What can punters expect from your set on the night? “You can expect a different style of Hip Hop that has known to captivate audiences in the past along with a highly energised stage performance that will guarantee to entertain people.”

Any surprises? “We are screening our Documentary preview of Word Of Mouth so were looking forward to that!”

What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “Our doco will be out by the end of the year so we cant wait for that because we really think it’s gonna do our music some serious justice,” Colin thought. “Also we plan to start recording our fourth coming album that will be our best work to date! We’re in the song writing process at the moment but we’re still unsigned so were shopping for a label to take us under the wing. Other than that hopefully from this gig we can gain more opportunities to do some more shows leading up to December.”
