The Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase is shaping up to be a beauty and one band worth checking out is A Devil Amongst The Tailors. MC/Producer Adam Dormand is looking forward to showcasing the band as he explains.
What’s the latest goings on for A Devil Amongst The Tailors? “We have just released our debut full length album, Learning To Swim out now through MGM,” Adam touted. “The album is made up of 13 tracks that we are incredibly proud of, with summer themes breezing through. We played our launch show last month to a great response and our biggest crowd yet so things are definitely on the way up. We’ve also been getting plenty of radio play around the country with singles The Good, The Bad And The Ugly and Summertime as well as recently dropping into ABC studios for a chat with Caroline Tran from Triple J’s Home and Hosed show. We’ve also been adding content to our website pretty regularly too.”
What does it mean for your band to be playing the SA Live Music Showcase? “It means a lot to us that people within the industry are taking note of what we are doing. It provides us with a good indication that we are on the right track and that the ADATT name is spreading and gaining momentum. As a live act in the SA scene to be involved with a lineup full of other great SA acts we respect it is definitely a good thing.”
Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “The approach to this gig is different in that we are working a lot more closely with the other acts, which has been really great,” Adam explained. “The opportunity to feed off each other and promote the live music scene together will only strengthen the wider music community as a whole. Also, the financial assistance for promotion and general assistance through the workshops has opened us up to new ideas to make this gig extra special and fingers crossed, pack out all venues across the Showcase to make these events a huge success.”
Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “Perhaps a little bit,” Adam thought. “To be honest I think the pressure we put on ourselves is far greater than the pressure from any industry individuals. The knowledge that some industry people will be in attendance is actually pretty exciting as it is an opportunity for us to show more people that are yet to see us, see what we do and hopefully enjoy it!”
What can punters expect from your set on the night? “Punters can expect a whole stack of fresh tracks off the album, Learning To Swim, with a couple older ones thrown in. Our live show is a blend of MPC sampling, thick bass lines and lyrical wit against a live visual backdrop. Joining us on the night we have the soulful vocals of Emma Jones, who adds a deft touch to the songs and features heavily on the album. We have also worked pretty hard producing a live visual set that syncs footage with the beats and incorporates a live camera feed on the night.”
Any surprises? “We definitely have some surprises in store for the night but if we told you now it wouldn’t be a surprise.”
What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “At the moment we are pretty focused on promoting the album,” Adam said. “The plan is to hook up some eastern states shows and try and grow our following there. We want to make sure people get an opportunity to hear our songs and let the album seep into the public conscience as summer approaches. We’ve also just begun the early stages of writing some new material, and are all excited about the prospects of pushing our boundaries further.”
