Brothersister are building a solid reputation on the live scene and are an exciting addition to the Coopers Alive SA Live Music Showcase. Xavia with Dante looking on answer a few questions about the latest goings on in the band.
What’s the latest goings on for Brother Sister? “Well,” Xavia paused. “We released our second album The Wunder Tales in February this year, after about 18 months of recording and tweaking in the home studio. Dante then spent some time in New York, mingling with the folks at Shilo Design who created the cover artwork for The Wunder Tales. They love the record and offered to make a music video for Still Run which should be ready in the next few months, we’re about as excited as little kids. We’ve also been making a brand new website exhibition space that’s being launched as part of the July 25 showcase. And we have managed to squeeze in a few gigs too, which is always good times.”
What does it mean for your band to be playing the SA Live Music Showcase? “There’s a bit of hometown pride I guess, glad to be involved in the event, with so many other great Adelaide bands, glad to be trying to help promote live music around Adelaide as well, getting more people out and involved. Go team.”
Do you approach this special event any differently to a normal gig? “Yeah slightly,” Xavia thought. “There’s been a bit more planning than usual and more collaboration with the other bands, kinda comparing notes and working together to try making it a great night for everyone. Ultimately you want every gig to be your best, but with the extra support from all the organisers and bands I think we’ll manage to pull off a few stunts we don’t otherwise have the steam to.”
Is there any extra pressure knowing that industry types might be sussing you out? “Not really,” Xavia answered. “We can be pretty hard on ourselves as it is I think. Everyone likes to put on a good show whatever the circumstances. No point in trying to be something you’re not, just enjoy the ride.”
What can punters expect from your set on the night? “We’re usually just joined by bass and drums live. But there will be some additional string players (always exciting for me on cello) and we’ve been working some of the electronic elements off the album back into the set too, mixing it up with Mano’s mad drum skills, a lot of fun. And Dante has made a series of videos especially for the show, hopefully that will get everyone drawn in and taken somewhere far away.”
Any surprises? “Always!”
What are the plans for the band for the remainder of the year? “Most excitingly, to launch the Still Run video, which we will celebrate heartily. “We hope to play a few gigs interstate too, just spreading the word. we’re always working on new songs and have numerous side projects running too, all the info will be up on our website.”
