Shooting at unarmed men began as most bands begin, in a most uninteresting fashion. The particulars of the inception of this band include a couch in Lower Cathedral Road, Cardiff, a four-track tape recorder and Jonathan Chapple (former bass player of mclusky). This relationship between man, machine and sofa began in 1999 and together they struggled through six long years of un-encouraged musical under achievement.
Though many players during these years were bribed, forced and cajoled to attend various rehearsals and recording sessions nothing bore fruit until January 2005. At this time the services of one Simon Alexander and one Steven Morgan became the steady hands that Jon Chapple was looking for and these three became the inspiration and perspiration, behind shooting at unarmed men’s debut record, “soon there will be…”
(Pure 178 c.d) released on the 17th of October 2005 shortly after their first single from this album “the pink ink” was released on the 26th September 2005 as a limited edition, hand stamped and hand numbered 7”.
Sadly this was as far as the group would go with this line-up, as Simon Alexander had to turn his attentions to his own band “King Alexander”. Being hardy of heart and stout of chest Jon Chapple and Steve Morgan began looking, with no in-significant sense of urgency, for a new bassist and as luck would have it gained the attention of bassist Simon Jarvis, from Bristols own stomp whommpers “Big Joan” and within three weeks had written, recorded, mixed and mastered their second release, “Yes! Tinnitus!”
(Pure 192 c.d released 22nd May 2006), which was preceded by their second single “girls music” (Pure 199S) which was again a limited release of 500 7” records, hand stamped, hand numbered and marked with 500 individual sentences.
It is then a cause of curiosity why Jon Chapple ended this unique line-up, sold all his worldly possessions and moved to Australia to set up home in Melbourne. But whatever the reason it was not long before he had engaged the services of “The Cheats” duo Julian Tovey and Thomas Robert Lee Cooper to join him on bass and drums respectively. And, so began the third inception of shooting at unarmed men, terra australis. Swiftly a set list was rehearsed and they began performing on the 4th of October 2006 at the Tote Hotel, Collingwood with the first of four Wednesday night residency gigs.
And in August 07 they are set to release their third L.P “Triptych” in Australia. Then, after extensive touring Australia wide, the band will travel the U.S, E.U, and G.B in early 08 to promote the release of their new album in these territories. Details TBC. Stay tuned.
In their time as a band they have been fortunate enough to play with Melt Banana, Male, Bilge Pump, Scout Nibblet, The Nation Blue, Legends of Motor Sport, Batrider, The Kamikaze trio, Baseball, FTSE 100, Truckers of Husk, We Are Knives, Ack Ack Ack, Blood Red Shoes and many more. They write set lists in their own blood. They know where you live. They own their own shoes. They eat with their fingers. And they suffer from no debilitating diseases; unless you count poverty as a debilitating disease, which many peoples of this world do.

Seems like the band owners have been pretty boring here, you should get in contact with them and find out why it's empty!
