Several years ago Brent Tunbridge began writing and recording songs in his home with his guitar and laptop. Eventually networking and searching in Perth paid off, and Brent found what would become the full lineup of Mercurial: Aaron Bridgeman, James Barber, Dave Rowlands and Jon Carlson.

Mercurial immediately began putting together a setlist and after 6 months of busy gigging began work on a debut full length entitled ‘August Design’. Recorded at Sovereign Studios under the direction of Aiden Barton (I Killed the Prom Queen, Parkway Drive, Pathogen) the album was independantly funded and released by the band- a challenging yet rewarding process.

The album is best described as hard rock/alternative combined with a prominant electronic edge, to give Mercurial a unique sound, with influences ranging from Nine Inch Nails, The Tea Party and Sneaker Pimps, to Deftones, A Perfect Circle and Massive Attack. Each individual member brings their own influences and musical style to the fold, resulting in a diverse group of songs.

On September 1st 2006 they launched their album to a capactiy crowd at the Amplifier Bar in Perth Western Australia. The first single ‘Divine’ has bought the band national attention, receiving steady rotation on Triple J after its discovery on ‘Unearthed’ and has also attracted interest in the US after its release on several US compilations.

Mercurial are now looking tothe future and the followup album to ‘August Design’. While staying true to their roots the new material is much more in depth and has a far more profficient degree of musicianship, as well as a larger pallet of sounds with the band always looking to experiment with new sounds and instruments.
