Get those denim jackets out of the closet my friend! The Watt Riot are preparing to boogie some eardrums with their high voltage, vintage twangin’, rock’n’roll tunes.
This four-piece have caused quite a riot since forming around the shores of Wollongong in 2005. With Johnny Watts on vox & guitar, Red on lead guitar, Dan on bass and Trina on drums, they have been described as “Harking back to the glory days of dirty Australian rock’n’roll.” Rusty Hopkinson – Reverberation / You Am I.
The Watt Riot’s tunes are filled with deafening guitar hooks, screaming vocals and hair flickin’ rhythms. This band gets the punters tapping their hi-tops all over the dance floor and yelling for more!
“More throat-tearing gutbucket, kickarse rock from Wollongong, jagged, ragged, uncomplicated, uncompromising, unpretentious guitar-chunking, scream-driven, four to the floor thump in the grand tradition of The Hard-Ons and Tumbleweed.” Michael Smith – Drum Media
The Watt Riot have blasted eardrums at venues all over Australia including: EnmoreTheatre (Syd), Gaelic Club (Syd), Annandale Hotel (Syd), Pony (Melb), ANU (ACT), Oxford Tavern (Wollo), Roadhouse Music (Wollo), Greenroom (Melb), Spectrum (Syd) and Bar Broadway (Syd). The foursome have shared these stages with notable acts like Eagles Of Death Metal (USA), The Answer (IRE), Betchudupa (NZ), Mess Hall, British India, The Exploders, Vasco Era, Legends Of Motorsport, Nunchukka Superfly and Hytest.
“This is like hard as Boniwell Music Machine….it’s smoking…and what a cool name for a band…” 5/5 Jesse (The Devil) Hughs – Eagles Of Death Metal
In March 2006 The Watt Riot released their debut EP ‘Nightmare on Love St’, distributed by boutique label Reverberation. Radio stations including Sydney’s FBi and Triple J have been playing tracks from the EP and Triple J Unearthed The Watt Riot on Valentines Day 2007 with the track Rock’n’Roll.
“Y’know how everyone uses ‘rock’ to describe something good these days. Like ‘you rock dude!’ or ‘that DJ sets was totally rockin’, or ‘I’m gonna rock the mic tonight’ or even ‘Fallout Boy rock!’. Well, unless they sound like this song by the Watt Riot, they’re don’t really ‘rock’ at all.” 5/5 – Chris Scadden – Triple J
The Watt Riot have just finished recording four new tracks at Velvet Sound Studios. With the assistance of Anthony The, who has worked with popular Aussie acts such as The Vines and Youth Group. Another 2 tracks have been recorded at 313 Studios with ARIA award winning engineer Al Wright who has worked with Motley Crue, RAT and INXS. Once again The Watt Riot managed to capture the energy and raw sound of their live shows. The band plan to get these rock’n’roll numbers out by early 2008.
