The Seks is a Brisbane band whose members come from differing musical backgrounds. Dave McGuire (Guitar) has a sturdy blues foundation, Damian Barnard (Bass) comes from the funk/fusion side of things while Brooksy (Vocals) was brought up on top 40 music then immersed himself in the jazz world. Due to their drummer going on tour with ‘The Ten Tenors’, they have resorted to using Brisbane’s top session muso’s. Lyrically, the songs explore urban living, pop culture and relationships (especially with the enigmatic opposite sex).
The Seks have been together for 3 years playing at venues like The Hard Rock Cafe, The Rev, The Zoo, Ric’s Cafe, The Townsville and Adelaide Uni Bars and The Cooly Hotel. They are QLD Champions of the Jim Beam National Campus Band Competition and also received $4000 worth of recording time after winning the ‘Brisbane Muso’s Band Competition’. This funded their 1st EP, which has been placed on iTunes. Their film clip, ‘Boom Ga Boom’ has been played on Rage and added to The Nightlife Music Channel and Fitness First Music Channel.
The members of the band are individually unique, but when united are a force to be reckoned with. The Seks are undeniably of the highest calibre, which combined with Brooksy’s energy and stage presence, amount to a fantastically enjoyable experience. They have just completed their 1st Album.
