Kid Katana and Al Martino met each other at South Melbourne café Zappa in early 2005. Katana, in search of the perfect drummer, had responded to a hand-written ad pinned to a record shop cork-board and arranged to meet up with Martino to discuss all things musical. Shortly after, the pair formed The Pryor Theory.

With the help of some friends the newly formed band squeezed into Katana’s tiny studio, threw together a few jams, and recorded what would eventually become the “La Fora Mundo” EP. Early shows were truly shambolic affairs, the band improvising over random samples with guest instrumentalists providing the textures. Two highlight shows that came from this period saw The Pryor Theory support Oz hip hop stars Muph & Plutonic at The Evelyn Hotel and take part in The Bahay Tuluyan Benefit Concert held at First Floor.

The Pryor Theory enjoyed medium rotation on Triple J in 2006/2007 with their unearthed.com entry “Caught in the Middle” and performed on the Air New Music Stage at the 2007 St Kilda Festival. 2007 also saw the band host a run of monthly club nights at Eurotrash in Melbourne’s Chinatown, teaming up with some of the city’s finest hip hop and electronica artists, such as SS Pecker, Ms Butt, IONiC, DJ Zaibatsu, DJ Tendekesha, and the legendary DJ Kuya.

In October the band played a blistering set at Melbourne’s premier music venue The Toff in Town, supporting broken-beat-trip-hop rising stars Miso, along with DJ Thief & Paris Wells, and DJ Sakamoiz, leaving many a punter wide-eyed and speechless, cementing their place as an emerging Australian act to watch.

The new year has already brought the band more good fortune with The Pryor Theory winning a spot on the 2008 Melbourne Big Day Out bill via the Triple J Unearthed competition, motivating the duo to commit itself to completing work on their debut album “Broken Windows” in time for a 2008 release.

Seems like the band owners have been pretty boring here, you should get in contact with them and find out why it's empty!
