What has become The Finishing School today began as a humble acoustic trio in 2001, under the guise of EmcTrio. This soon grew to include a cello and drum kit. Armed with this array of strings and percussion the EmCQuintet began to flirt with audiences all over Adelaide.

As the seasons passed things changed, as they do. An electric bass was found, and then later a cello was lost, and various musicians found their way in or out of the band. The result of this was three guys and a girl, who would best be described as THE FINISHING SCHOOL. Realising that one musn’t put all of their eggs in one basket, they put a few in folk, a couple in jazz, maybe just a yolk in classical, and are gradually filling up rock. Now, this finely oiled and efficient form of distrubution is utilised on a much wider scale than mere eggs. In fact the band only requires two surnames between the four of them; drummer Zac and bassist Tristan sharing Courtney, and guitarist and singer Thom and violinist and singer Emily fighting over Combe.

This sibling set has made themselves at home in several pubs around Adelaide including The Grace Emily, The Gov, JIVE, Fad Bar, Rhino Room, Supermild, The Austral and The Exeter, and on the same bill as the likes of Evermore, Abbie Cardwell ,Fruit and The Borderer’s. They have also just returned from a tour to Melbourne where they played at ‘The Corner Hotel’ , ‘Bar Open’, ‘The Espy’, ‘The Cornish Arms’ and ‘The Empress Hote’l earning some new Melbourne fans. In January of 2006, The Finishing School’s tune ‘Better’ was placed on a compilation CD of unsigned bands from around AUSTRALIA to head to the prestigious ‘MIDEM MUSIC FESTIVAL’ in Cannes, France. In March, the same company chose ‘You Make Me Laugh’ to be on their 2nd compilation CD this time heading to the SXSW festival in the U.S.A. On august 9th this year, JJJ UNEARTHED launched their brand new website and asked The Finishing School to be their first feature artist from around Australia to be showcased! TFS stayed in the top 100 charts for 5 weeks straight with all their 3 tunes entered! They also appeared on JTV as the first unearthed artist to be featured, by Myf Warhurst on August 8th. The Finishing School have also recently been awarded the title of ‘Best Pop Artist of the year’ award for their tune ‘You Taught Me’ at the biggest independent music awards in America- the ‘LA MUSIC AWARDS’. The awards took place on November 9th 2006. With an EP in stock and a new album entitled ‘Unit One’ recently launched at JIVE to a sell out house in August of 06, The Finishing School have much to offer, you might even learn a thing or two about manners.

Boooring……

Seems like the band owners have been pretty boring here, you should get in contact with them and find out why it's empty!
