The Atrium is an emerging band based in Sydney, Australia, they have been writing towards their forthcoming EP and subsequent album since September 06. The Atrium began in Shanes’ garage; originally it was Shane and Shaun with nothing else but their instruments and a need to play. After a few practices together in Shanes’ garage a friend whom Shane knew and had played music with from school coincidentally was present when they began practice. That friend turned out to be Byron… He adopted the bass, and The Atrium adopted him.
Over the following weeks they played together as a band and formed the ideas that would be the basis for their music today. They had no vocalist and no songs but they did have an idea that they could create something that transcended time or space, which moved beyond genre, or the manner in which the notes were played, something that communicated not only through language, but through imagery and texture in sound.
After unforeseen circumstances resolved themselves favorably for the band, The Atrium had found their vocalist in Thomas La Greca. Thomas was a good friend of Byron and Shane and had previously worked with Shaun on another project. With Thomas present the band began writing the basis of what is their body of work today.
For the past year the band has been writing towards the concept of this record, developing their sound and ideas and becoming familiar with their creative process. With many songs amended from their original form, and many more omitted, the band is currently in recording.
