“Making crowd members blush with sultry movements and cheeky lyrics, this man-eater strutted across stage, the audience putty in her hands… To hell with Justin, it’s these guys who are REALLY bringing sexy back!” Dominick Scilorres, 3D World Magazine

Fuelled by a creativity that deviates from the well-trodden path, Super Massive is best labelled as sci-funk/alterna-pop/rock, delivered with force. It’s all about classic pop songwriting, evocative, dynamic vocals, synth sounds of any vintage, deep, funky danceable grooves and the lustiness of a full blooded rock band. With multi-layered synthscapes, live the sound is huge and unique, and has earned the band numerous hot ticket recommendations in the press.

Super Massive was formed in 2005 by singer, songwriter, actor & dancer Malina Hamilton-Smith and drummer & songwriter Glenn Abbott (best known for his work in Machine Gun Fellatio).

Together with guitarist Marc Malouf and bassist Dan Bruce, the band has played for a couple of years around Sydney venues such as Home Nightclub, Candy’s Apartment, Spectrum, The Supper Club, The Hopetoun and The Annandale.

They’ve toured northern NSW and Queensland twice, played this year’s Surry Hills Festival, and appeared at other community festivals such as Glebe Street Fair and Marrickville Road Festival.

At a show up in Byron Bay the band even managed to score fans in Rufus Wainwright and his band, who stumbled into a Super Massive show at the Beach Hotel, loved it, bought a CD and invited the band to come to see their own show at the State Theatre & to party on with them afterwards.

Earlier this year the band also played at youth-run charity The Oaktree Foundation’s ‘Global Night Shift Concert to End Child Slavery’, in a 7-city line-up that included Evermore, The Hampdens, Tonks & Green & Tzu.

In November 07 the band was awarded ‘Best Alternative Artist’ at the MusicOz Awards for synth-rock track “Fists In My Pocket”.

In May 08 they released their debut self-titled EP with “Fists” its leading single. The release has received rave reviews. “Fists” shot to no.1 on the Triple J Unearthed Dance Chart and remained in the Top 5 for two months, with the band championed by Triple J’s Radio Funktrust DJs, selected as Triple J Unearthed Featured Artist and included in the Funkcast podcast. It also topped the SYN Radio chart.

The video for “Fists” also went to no.1 on the Channel 31 video chart, and has had play on Rage, Scout TV and Songwriters Across Australia on TVS & Channel 31. It was featured on British music bible NME’s website and has received play on the UK’s biggest pay TV syndicate, Tiscali TV.

The Super Massive EP is out now in stores & online through MGM Distribution & iTunes.
