Sam’s brand of acoustic rock appeals to the best kind of market – a broad one. The success of his song writing follows a simple formula, focussing on a strong vocal talent without over complicating the sound but still keeping it interesting. His music has been compared (amongst others) to Robbie Williams, Queen, Ben Folds, David Blunt, Crowded House and Lior. (Interestingly he also does a mean cover of the Darkness song I believe in a thing called love.)

Born in the UK, Sam’s musical influences include the best of British rock and indie as well as classical and jazz styles. Sam showed promise at an early age, winning trophies for composition and school music prizes and going on to play in several audition only musical ensembles at university. Classically trained, with a degree in music and early live experience ranging from classical to rock bands to big band jazz, Sam’s excitement for music shines through in his live performance as well as his recorded music.

Playing the piano since he was six years old, followed by brass and later the guitar and vocals, Sam is a musical all rounder; but his real love is the keyboard. Sam’s flexibility and musical talent is demonstrated by his ability to switch instruments mid-song and his proven success in playing while singing. Sam is passionate about performing, and never happier than when in front of an audience.

Moving to Melbourne has inspired a new creativity in Sam’s music, “The chilled out vibe, the beach, the fresh air, the music and the vibrancy of the city make me want to write,” he says, “Melbourne knows music and loves it, the support for up and coming artists is incredible.”

Since arriving in Melbourne Sam has been jamming and performing with several other musicians and has collaborated on the recording of an album with them, as well as writing and recording all of the material for this demo. He finds inspiration in collaborating with other artists, “writing on your own is all very well, and it is an important part of my artistic process, but the real beauty of the music only comes together when you work closely with others, and gain from their skills and experiences.”

Sam is enthusiastic and is busily developing a fan base through marketing his own music, he is fully committed to becoming a success.
