Like the phoenix from the flames of destruction, death becomes a rebirth.
Our Last Enemy Formed early 2006, initially as a new formation of Sydney act Anxiety Whispers which front man Oliver was recruiting for after a major lineup change.
After months of dead-end auditions and ironic anxiety, something seemed to align. Former members of Sydney act Souljah had split and were looking to form a new band following a new direction and sound. After a few meetings and rehearsals it became apparent the visions of both parties were on the same page, and a bond was formed.
Initially all the songs, ideas, ideologies and philosophies being pursued by Oliver under the AW moniker were focused into this project with an aim to resurrect and continue it. After much thought and input, it was decided a new name was required for the project.
Our Last Enemy comes from a quote in the bible ‘’...death, our last enemy…’’ something that is a common bond for all of us, and which we all ultimately face.
But like in the tarot, death is also seen as a positive figure, one of rebirth and new beginnings.
In preparing oneself for the final meeting, we do not shy away in fear, but live life to the fullest so as to be ready for the end.
To understand ones fears and anxieties is to own and defeat them.
The name has many layers of meaning and is integral to the band as a whole, continuing a vision and philosophy intrinsically tied to each member’s personal journey.
