At the heart of Le Kingste is Paul Kingston: composer, lyricist, vocalist, keyboardist and the mastermind of Le Kingste’s “dark pop” sound. Behind him in the rhythm section are his older brothers Arthur and Caleb, and off to one side is former Carl Kennedy Affair guitarist Dan Fluit.
In their short time on the Sydney music scene Le Kingste have notched up shows at the Gaelic Theatre, the Annandale Hotel, the Hopetoun Hotel and Spectrum among others. They’ve also scored a lot at a major street festival and airplay on Triple J and FBi. Their crowning achievement, though, is having their signature tune “Two Pills” used as the soundtrack to a HSC dance performance.
Like any other modern genre, Le Kingste’s dark pop is an amalgam of other musics, and there is something in it for everyone. Musos appreciate its ‘simple intricacy’, and all listeners agree that there’s something compelling about it, a certain something that they haven’t quite heard before. With their intense stage presence, passionate performance, and burgeoning repertoire of memorable originals, Le Kingste are a band that belongs on your “must-see” list for 2008.
