“We were sick to death of the lazy, contrived, stagnant and dishonest way most bands carried themselves and their music. So we decided to create what we wanted in a band.”
Sydney-based band Kunvuk was formed in 2002 with the intent to create honest and unpredictably unique heavy music. The result is what has been described as technical groove metal by some and doom-laden, punk-laced, death-charged metal by others. With musical comparisons to System of A Down, Pantera and Lamb of God, they tackle complex lyrical themes such as the insanity and desperation of our everyday internal and external struggles.
Currently, Kunvuk is promoting their demo EP “The Gone Mekanik Anticipation Demonstration” with plans to play as many shows as possible over the coming months. Coinciding with this will be the launch of the official Kunvuk website www.kunvuk.com. This will be the official source for all information regarding live dates and the recording of their debut LP, which is scheduled to begin in August 2008.
Catalysed around the creative core of David Hart and Simon Edwards, the bands line-up is filled out by skin man Felipe Cordoba and bassist Luis Barra. After an exhaustive search that lasted five years, the right combination of explosive personalities have been drawn together to deliver the level of energy and dedication demanded by Kunvuk. As Simon recalls, “It really started for me as a reaction to or rebellion against mediocrity. The normality of life that so many, I would say most, people consider to be satisfactory I just can’t stomach. Other people who feel this way are few and far between.” With this new found stability the focus has now shifted to building a long lasting career in an ever-changing music industry.
After recently completing a run of successful dates in Sydney, Kunvuk is set to incite and terrify with their bizarre and exciting stage show that is quickly developing a strong and loyal fan-base.
