KRISTY LONDON & THE OTHER HALVES – BIO
If you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering who Kristy London and The Other Halves are and why they think they can cut it in the music industry. You’re probably wanting answers to questions like…. “What will make this band stand out from the next band” and “why should I even listen to their music?” Yes…. maybe…whatever? Get on with it!Well what I can tell you is that they are determined to get their songs out there because, for them, the music industry is about letting GOOD MUSIC be heard and their music is GOOD! For Kristy London and The Other Halves, the quest of creating good music has moved from a leisure pursuit into a relentless obsession.
Kristy’s love of music began early with a tasty fascination of jazz and classical artists. In particular music by Beethoven moved her soul; so much so that in 2000 she had a capital B tattooed to her left arm to remind her of the commitment it takes to be a true artist, someone who will stop at nothing to act on passion.
So how does a passionate four-piece rock band from Brisbane whose front woman is over 21 and hasn’t been a part of a reality TV show get noticed and get that elusive major label deal? Quite simply they just get on with it. Kristy London and The Other Halves have naturally embraced the ‘do it you self’-attitude that is gaining artists momentum in the world of record making. In fact, recording music is so instilled in their lifestyle that’s how the band actually started in the first place.
Their latest EP, Love Will Remain is a self release that showcases an ambitious and engaging group of songs. The title track ‘Love Will Remain’ glides along at a steady rock pace with Kristy’s signature sultry voice and poignant lyrics guiding the way through layers of chimey guitar and deep cellos. As the record continues, hints of melancholy and mystery suggest the deeply emotional perspective of its writers. The unique mix of music styles leave you reflective, uniquely energised and wanting more.
It has certainly been a unique journey to get to this point; one that is as unprocessed and organic as their music is…. After many Tuesday nights watching Kristy play solo shows at a local Brisbane bar, Pete Jones (Producer/Bass) finally built up the courage to approach her. All it took was a few exchanges of favourite CDs (mainly rare Jeff Buckley singles) and a musical friendship was born. Six months of late night recording followed and their first EP, Hearts was born. This left them needing a drummer if they wanted to do it all live. It was love at first sight when they met Joachim Alfheim (drummer) and from July 31 2006 (their first gig at Ric’s in Brisbane) the band became real. They sold 20 CDs that night – not bad!
So exactly what can you expect from the live show? Well, you can definitely count on a large amount of heart and soul, some super big, stand out choruses and well crafted lyrics. You can also expect some big and beautiful guitar sounds thanks to the latest addition to the The Other Halves Mark Angel. Mr Angel prides himself on his collection of vintage guitars; each one makes an appearance on stage when the time is right. There are some heart jerking ballads like ‘You Said’ which is accompanied by Mr Jones on Melodica and some straight out rock anthems like ‘Obvious’ that make your feet stomp and your head rock.
Just ask venues like the The Zoo, The Troubadour, Ric’s, The Living Room, The Globe, QPAC Theatre, Darling Harbour Stage or The Alley…..they have all experienced the love. Or you could ask Old Man River, Kate Miller Heidke, Paul Mac, Tyrone Noonan (George), Hot Liquid Sex, Brianna Carpenter, Monique Brumby, Glasshouse, The Gin Club, Grand Atlantic or Tim Steward… they have all shared the stage with these rising stars.
