Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire

Description

Canada’s Arcade Fire is the band based around husband and wife Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, who are known for their unique blend of textured, eclectic indie-rock. Along with multi-instrumentalists Richard Reed Parry, William Butler and Tim Kingsbury, violinist Sarah Neufeld and drummer Jeremy Gara, Butler and Chassagne have won over the critics as well as the likes of David Bowie and U2.

After releasing a self-titled EP in 2003, Arcade Fire released debut album Funeral through Merge Records in October 2004. After receiving a rating of 9.7 from Pitchfork Media, Funeral went on to finish in countless end-of-year polls and even resulted in the band appearing on the cover of Time magazine’s Canadian edition early in 2005.

Coming up with anything nearly as good as Funeral was always going to be a tough task, but when the Montreal band re-emerged in March 2007 with Neon Bible. While Neon Bible lacks the clear-cut singles of Funeral, the self-produced album has been praised as a more mature and consistent effort than its predecessor.
