Many are under the impression that wombats are slow, fat and hairy. However there is a kind of Wombat that evolved in 2006 in Liverpool, that in the space of a year, has spread across at least three continents like STDs at a festival.
Some Canberran's at least were lucky enough to make the annual trek to the luscious Byron Bay for our fav festival Splendour in the Grass.
An obsession with Marsupials, Neighbours and kitsch Australiana, wrapped up in harmonies of gold. Not a bad way to spend a weeknight at the Gov.
Despite the rather lacking duration of their set, the Wombats made sure their hyped status was lived up to.

Guitar pop upstarts The Wombats will perform in a forthcoming episode of 'Neighbours', to be filmed when they arrive on our shores for Splendour.
The Reading and Leeds double-header returns in August, with both festivals sharing the same acts over one mammoth weekend. The banner names are suitably colossal: among them Rage Against The Machine, The Killers, Metallica and Bloc Party.
