The Grates
We talk to the effervescent Patience Hodgson about cracking the US and being compared to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The first single from The Grates’ highly anticipated debut album ‘Gravity Won’t Get You High’, ‘19 20 20’is an explosion of tasty pop without the bubblegum.’19 20 20’ is full of surprises in the form of horns, keys and party sounds whilst still maintaining the carefree rock aesthetic of the trio’s signature sound.
The Grates have had a stellar rise to become one of Australia’s favourite exports, touring the UK, Canada and the USA numerous times in the past year, critical acclaim gathering steadily in their stocking-shod wake. Their DIY debut EP, ‘The Ouch. The Touch.’ had fans across the globe sit up and listen, then smile and start dancing. Now, their fully realised debut album, ‘Gravity Won’t Get You High’ takes them out of their garden shed and into the recording studio with Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Secret Machines, Iron and Wine) and Peter Katis (Interpol, Mercury Rev). ‘19 20 20’ is a slice of musical chocolate birthday cake, proving that gravity won’t get you high, but The Grates will.
‘19 20 20’ is out on March 11 through iTunes and limited edition vinyl.
Look out for the new album ‘Gravity Won’t Get You High’ out on April 8th.
